Natural Aloe Vera Without the Stink

Natural is almost always the best and Aloe Vera is no exception. Though, anyone who has used the gel right of the plant know that it wreaks!

I just came across the solution so I thought I’d share.

The yellow sap that oozes out is what smells so bad. After cutting the fresh leaf, let it run for 15-20min or so. THEN wash the leaf from the residue. No yellow sap should be coming out by now, if it still does, wait a little longer. After you wash it, the smell should dissapear too. Now, cut the spikes off the leaf, then peel it with vegetable peeler and you’ll end up with clear, almost transparent, smell-free piece of Aloe Vera gel. To use: dice it and whiz in a blender. This will be 1000 times better then store bought.

Some might wonder why the store bought Aloe Vera doesn’t smell. Look at the ingredients listed and you’ll see that there’s precious little of the actual Aloe Vera. I also found this the case when I purchased Tea Tree oil from the Body Shop, and hair wax that had a huge “BEES WAX” with the tiny words “contains.” Needless to say, I read labels pretty carefully now.

This business card was part of a branding package completed for a Portland development company Edgewood.net. The target market is front end web developers and designers, and advertising agencies. He was going for a techie image that portrayed an up-to-date approach.

Based on the feedback we nailed the target market right on the head.

Congratulations to our client Portland Ten and their alumni ShopIgniter from their startup bootcamp. ShopIgniter is Portland Ten’s first company to reach $1M in revenue in 18 months. Great work!

They celebrated on Friday night with a cake displaying Portland Ten’s logo. When working with Portland Ten to develop their brand, no warning was given that it may one day end up on a cake and needs to be transferable to icing and food coloring.
